Our house produces a huge volume of yard waste with tons of leaves and cleanup from perennials, and there is no pickup service option available. Only option is to make it go away with a compost pile.
I saw some plans online that were similar. Came up with a design that is efficient use of materials, easy to build, modular for future expansion, and pretty good volume. Writing this in 01/15/2024 and the bins didn’t come close to being able accommodate all the yard waste from the fall - the biggest problem was leaves. Will need to expand or find another plan to dispose of the excess material. Although, the material compacted quite a bit after a few months and I was able to fit a lot more leaves in, which had been in a pile next to the full bins for lack of a better option.
Looking forward to using compost to build up some raised beds in a vegetable garden we’ll be starting in the spring.
Notes:
Made 3 bins, each with (exterior) dimensions of 39.5” deep, 39.5” wide, 39” tall.
Called for: 13 2x6x10’, 3 2x4x10’, 27’ of 3’ high chicken wire, a box of 2.5” screws, and a few spare bricks to raise the posts off the ground.
Came together in a couple of hours.
