I had recently replaced the blower fan motor on the furnace when the whole thing went out. Some failure in the control board which was cost prohibitive to fix. Thought it was wasteful to throw the new motor out so decided to feed two birds with one scone, and build an air filter cart for the workshop.

The cabinet is pretty self-explanatory. Built a box out of scrap plywood, with spots for standard air filters on 3 sides. Mounted the squirrel cage fan from the furnace in an orientation that pulls air through the filters. Wired it up to a switch for variable speed control. The cart’s height aligns with other workshop surfaces, allowing it to function as an out feed table or extra support. It’s on casters for easy mobility.

I ended up using it as a stand for my thickness planer, which I wheel out of the way when not in use.
